The Bob Iger Company

By Eduardo A. Viera

To understand Bob Iger’s Disney, you must first understand his philosophy to being acquired: “I was a living, breathing example of how someone could not only survive an acquisition but thrive.” This, of course, is quite the understatement. Bob Iger used to be the president of ABC Television before it got acquired by Disney, until he eventually rose through the ranks and became the CEO of The Walt Disney Company. As such, his tenure as chief executive can be summarized with one word: acquisitions.

Spoiler-Free Review - Logan

By DJ Momo

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces. And yet, the darkest force the movie faces is, without a doubt, all the holes in it.
Wolverine is one of the most loved characters from Marvel comics. He is (arguably) more popular than Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and maybe even Spider-Man depending on when you grew up. And yet, for a character with such a big repertoire of source material to "inspire", he never seems to be done right. After the fiasco of the two first movies in the Wolverine Trilogy, I went in expecting very little from that movie. I did not even watch the trailer beforehand. Without a doubt, the two first movies set a very low threshold for me. The good thing is, it is my favorite Wolverine movie yet. The bad thing is, that's not saying much. Let's start.

Trouble in Paradise: Affleck and Warner on the Verge of Breaking Up?

By Eduardo A. Viera

It all started in August 2013. Greg Silverman, who at the time was Warner Bros.' president of creative development and worldwide production, was more than happy to announce that DCEU’s Batman would be played by none other than Ben Affleck. This was an interesting turn of events: ten years before, Affleck had starred in the critically panned Daredevil, and in other despised movies such as Gigli (considered one of the worst movies of all time). To think that just one decade later, Warner Bros. would gleefully announce him as their new star - but more than that, be considered lucky for getting him - can be directly attributed to the hard work Affleck put into his renaissance. Starting in 2006, he started directing movies and releasing acclaimed films such as Gone Baby Gone (2007) and The Town (2010). He reached his peak with Argo in 2012, which garnered him an Oscar for Best Picture and cemented him as a triple-A star. This renaissance was part of the reason Warner Bros. wanted him, and the implications were clear: audiences were getting Ben the auteur, not Ben from the past.

Spoiler-Free Review - The Bleeder

By DJ Momo

Image result for the bleeder 2016

If you ask anyone today if they have seen any of the Rocky movies, they probably will tell you they have. Or, at least, they have seen Creed. But if you ask most people if they knew who “inspired” the movie, most of them won’t know. Well The Bleeder is here for the save as it introduces us to Chuck Wepner, the man behind the famous Rocky.

Spoiler-Free Review - War Dogs

     By Eduardo A. Viera

A movie about greedy people doing greedy things and living a greedy lifestyle. A few years ago, I would’ve called a movie with that premise The Wolf of Wall Street. Today, the movie is called War Dogs.

Spoiler-Free Review - Sausage Party

By Eduardo A. Viera

Have you ever seen a trailer that is hilarious, only to find out after watching the movie that the trailer provided the best scenes? I know, it seems to happen every time. One rare exception is the movie Sausage Party, an animated movie about food realizing what happens to them after they leave the store.

Spoiler-Free Review - Suicide Squad

By DJ Momo

Guess what? The DCEU just released a suicide letter! Or was it Suicide Squad? Either way, same thing. Suicide Squad was one of the movies I waited for the most since probably when it got announced but I am unhappy to say that I am heavily disappointed. The movie did not deliver on its promises at all and in fact, kind of went the other way. No wonder Warner Bros. is getting sued for false advertisement. The movie is nothing like the trailers showed.

Spoiler-Free Review - The Legend of Tarzan

By DJ Momo

Spider-Man, Terminator and Cinderella; What do these movies have in common? They are all movies that, in recent years, have had some sort of reboot. This week saw the release of another one of those remakes in the form of The Legend of Tarzan. The Legend of Tarzan is a new movie made by Warner Bros that tries to recreate the eponymous story with a more adult twist and, I have to say, I am really divided on the whole issue.

This is Disney's Year

By Eduardo A. Viera

Disney is on a roll. For those who thought last year was Disney’s break-out year after releasing The Avengers: Age of Ultron and the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the span of months, you’re clearly not following Disney in 2016.
Let’s begin with the grand scheme of things. Out of 26 movies that have reached one billion dollars at the global box office, 11 of those are from Disney. Its closest competitor?
